Common Code & Ethical Jobs Presents: Thoughts & Strategies for Modern Web Accessibility

Common Code Presents is a collaborative Tech Talk series discussing technical elements of our projects alongside our clients.

On Thursday 21st November 2019, we were joined by EthicalJobs.com.au for an afternoon discussion on accessibility, compatibility and user advocacy. These principles were fundamental to the build of their new website, which you can see at www.ethicaljobs.com.au.

The talk, led by Ash Guy (Common Code Principal) and Robyn Percy (EthicalJobs.com.au General Manager), was a deep dive into the why's and how's of crafting a user first, highly accessible public web app, as well as tech and collaborative approaches we used along the way. It was followed by an AMA session, with audience and online questions probing further into the lessons and insights.

Every second Thursday, our team participates in a learning event, most often a peer-led session where one of our team members presents on some topic they are interested in (called Common Code Learns). In 2019 we decided to take our other regular Thursday learning event - Common Code Presents, an event focused on insights and lessons from our client projects - and make it a public event, available as a livestream, and to share the video online.
